Why do I have to download this if I'm on a iPhone 6? Just so my iOS version is the same build number?

The software update applies to all iPhones from iPhone 4S and newer.

FWIW, my wife and I have downloaded 8.1.1 on our iOS devices and it didn't break anything obvious: VZW iphone 5, VZW iphone 5S, T-Mobile iphone 6 plus, VZW iPad Air, wifi only iPad mini 2

Hopefully this will fix the outstanding intermittent bugs in third party keyboard support.

The change log states it's only for iPhone 4S and iPad 2

The wording is a bit confusing, but it does apply to all of the recent devices. The performance enhancements are for the 4S/ipad 2. For the rest of us, we get some unspecified bug fixes.

It does not state that at all. Because some older iPhone and iPad models took performance hits from earlier updates, that as well as other items were addressed. The bug fixes statement comes before anything was said about either the iPad 2 or iPhone 4S. If the update did not apply to a particular model, no update would be available for that model.

Same. Jailbreak is clutch with Verizon unlimited plan.

My iPhone 6 plus did a fake reboot while I was on the phone. The phone showed the apple logo like it does when it boots up but the phone held the call I was on.

8.0.2 had issues, but not 8.1.

No word from Pangu but I wouldn't try it unless they give official word.

You will lose your jailbreak for sure. Apple has even thanked Pangu for finding security holes that Apple has now fixed in 8.1.1 - it's what Pangu used to jailbreak.

Personally, I am glad that Apple is fixing security holes aggressively.

Oh I definitely think we all are. Using a jailbreak is a toss up. You're knowingly using exploits in code to undermine the system for your gain but risk your own privacy and personal data. To some of us it is worth it but I prefer to have the jailbreak community stay current with the latest revisions to iOS. I doubt they will release a 8.1.1 exploit and instead will wait till 8.2 now that the beta is already out.

Apple is not fixing security holes aggresively; they are fixing holes that are used for jailbreaking. http://www.cnet.com/news/apple-downp...ue-attack-bug/

Apparently people who update to the latest one get an extra 500 megabytes of storage freed up. It did for me. Might convince some people with limited storage to give up their jailbreak.
