Enable Features (Bookmarks+More) for Verizon E815 Browser

Hey do you wish the openwave browser fro the Verizon E815 had Bookmarks With Folders, Hotkeys, and an Actual go to url in the menu? Well so did I. Then I decided to uncripple the crippled OpenWave Browser and now so can you.

NOTE: Originally I was planning on sharing this information with a few select people so we could provide the public with some quality hacks instead of something half ***. But after seeing BombaMyte's post in regards to the EVdo Dun hack I figure whats the point. And besides it could be more fun this way.

Anyway some of you may have already seen my posts in the Cell Base thread regarding copying over the 2742 bell seem from KBMANS post.

See my message that I sent to BombaMyte this morning in confidence:

New verizon e815 browser features.

If you have the bell seem 2742 loaded copy the file /nvm/seem/wap_elem_d from the bell e815 filesystem onto the verizon phone system with QPST in the EFS Explorer. (Note: I am unable to copy the file without having the bell 2742 seem loaded and now that it's loaded the whole phone is open for copying and overwriting including the prefs.dat and all brew directories files.)

Once its overwritten, and after you download it and double check it went through, close the EFS Explore. Reset the phone and bam. Go into the OpenWave Browser press Menu Key and be happy cause now you have new menu Items; Bookmarks with Folders and Hotkeys, and a nice new Go To Url menu Item.

Maybe other features of the bell phone but I haven't had time to test.

Anyways i'm just sharnig with a couple people for now so keep it on the dl. I want to isolate the bits for copying the files on the bell seem before I share with everyone. In fact feel free to do that if you want that be a big help. I keep putting it off.

- Peace

I'm working on this two... I have the different offset/bit combos mapped out...

I gonna start with some of the changes around 74, 87, 88, 8b and 8C

Pain in the butt cause change a bit, restart phone, try, restart phone, etc...

See now this is what I'm talking about Quality Hacks. Lets do it right guys.

If anyone knows the seem that loads from the /nvm/seem/wap_elem_d file please let us know. Only a few bytes will need to be changed, to enable the features of the verizon e815 open wave browser, which can then be modified via Pk2seem instead of copying the files and playing with QPST. Until then you can use the method posted above.

Thanks and keep up the Great Work Mark.

Very nice work SU. I have to say it's very gratifying to see all this outflow of innovation resulting from my having gotten the phone and released the file system.
This is really the best possible result of the whole project.
Having 25 different people tearing away at these issues produces results at a stunning clip, it's amazing.

Try doing FC /bin with some of the known seems vs the NV files???

see which have very similar bit patters (or very little differences)??

Seem 2742, bytes 90, record 1... Offset 5A bit 7 is the BIT that allows copying the NVM files!!!! Set this bit to 1 or "Check the box" will do it for the Verizon Seem!

i.e. In the verizon seem this is set "off" or "unchecked" when set that way, NVM files wont copy to the PC using QPST...

Turn this bit "ON" or "check the box" and you can use QPST to copy the NVM files both ways!

Toggle this one bit, and there is no need to load the Bell Seem!

The idea is this... Use P2KSeem for V710 to load the bell seem from file, then save to your phone... this enabled the ability to then use QPST to copy/overwrite the NVM files on the phone...

I just found that one single bit can be changed in the Verizon 2742 seem to enable this... so no need to put the Bell 2742 seem onto your phone...

i.e. Seem edit your 2742 seem, offset 5A bit 7..."check the box" save to phone, then restart your phone...

Then you can use QPST to place the files onto the phone as per the initial post.

Remember it's not just about copying the nvm files. It allows complete access over all the files that you didn't have access to before. Including the brew files and prefs.dat via QPST.

Thanks and great work Mark that was really quick.

I'm trying to find a list of known seems. So we can put this other effort out of the way and move on to bigger and better hacks

Peace

Looking at that /nvm/seem/wap_elem_d file... they are the same for both phones except the following strings....

In the Bell one... http://uaprof.bellmobilite.ca/BMC_M...815_BMX171P.rdf

and in the verizon is... http://uaprof.vtext.com/mot/E815/E815v1.xml

interesting when you go there from your PC....

those are for automated webpages to create the page per your specifications its good to have the bell one in there anyways cause verizon one is down and has been down.

Mark I have enabled all the features of the browser now. Save Items. Send Links. Take Snapshots. Url Search. etc etc we need to find out where this eem loads so we can put the changes into effect that way.

peace
