Just my 2 cents on the upgrade:

I did the SIM unlock using lokiWizard, then run the ROM upgrade with CID UNLOCK.

Afterwards, I customized my application WITHOUT installing any 3rd part apps. Afterwards, I installed SpB backup then create a "base" backup. THEN, I start muckng around by installing other apps. When things go phoey, I just restore using the base backup and all is well.

Oh yeah, another thing: when I select the Comm Manager, how come the ActiveSync button is greyed out?

lanwarrior - first - your plan re: upgrading and backing up a base, solid install is really smart. That's the kind of thing I have my corporate clients do for enterprise applications -- one day I'll have the patience to do that myself! I'm sorta like the mother crab telling her kids not to walk sideways...

Re: activesync icon in comm mgr: I just plugged my phone back in (we're back from dinner now), active sync start chugging while I read your post. So I opened up comm mgr, and my active sync icon is NOT grayed out - it's green. When I tap it (just did this in the middle of typing this sentence), it brings up the Active Sync app on the phone, showing my current status. I'm guessing that it doesn't activate ActiveSync or run it -- but shows you when it IS on, and lets you open activate the window in which it's running....

Yeah I tried it and it seemed to work but then I got the "Data crashes" error and I can't find a solution...I did everything the instructions said. Anyone find a solution to this?

Trooper - ow! Sorry to hear this. Check the thread over on xda-developers.com -- you may have to read a few pages, but I suspect that what they're discussing may work for you. Involves using "lokiwiz", with your SIM card removed from the MDA, to properly unlock the phone. Suggest you start reading here:

Good luck with this...hang in there...(trying not to say, "be a trooper" -- I wouldn't have much of a sense of humor right about now in your situation). Considering that your hardware is essentially identical to that of all the others that have worked, I'm confident that you'll get it working if you have the time and patience.

Let us know how you make out...

Excellent! Hey -- I'm going to stay online and wait to see if you get this loaded. Please post once you have an idea how it's going...

Make it so, Mr. Trooper!

Thanks for the info, Jonazen! It's a pity that the ActiveSync button is disabled from Comm Manager. BEfore I upgrade to the new ROM, I usually just click on Com Manager and tap the BT icon and then the ActiveSync icon, both from the same screen, to sync with my desktop. Now I have to click Com Mgr to run BT, then go to Start -> Program -> ActiveSync.

I have just started again. I'll keep you updated. Hey thanks for keeping me calm...just reading a couple of posts kept me going until I fixed it. Now that I know how to fix it, I don't have to worry about not being able to recover.

Excellent...we ought to know something in a few minutes then. I was close to hyperventilating before I finally tried this last night, and now that I've done it, and it looks like you really can recover from issues like this, it's a much better feeling. Much better now!

Waiting to see how you make out...

Yay Trooper!

Anxiety sorta wrings you out, eh? What's nice now, is that even if you screw up your apps install, worst case is having to do a "clear data" (or if the phone is frozen, a push-button hard reset). Your new working ROM is in there now, all safe and sound.

Have fun -- I've got a fair amount of stuff loaded now, including:
Wisbar Advance 2
PocketBreeze
ContactBreeze
iLauncher
PocketZenPhone
MS Voice Command
Darryl Burling's Voice Enable
Resco Explorer and registry editor
Pocket Screen Capture
MemMaid
skins for the phone pad
skins for Wisbar, PocketBreeze, ContactBreeze and iLauncher
...and a few other odds and ends.

I still have about 17mb of free program memory, and the phone is still nice and responsive. I'll find out tomorrow if the battery life is as improved as everyone else reports.

BTW: I've raved about this before, but I'll do it one more time: if you go with PocketZenPhone (highly recommended), definitely do the version 6 beta, also download and install the shortcuts, rename the shortcuts to meaningful words that line up with whatever icon set you decide to use (e.g., "home", "car", "office", etc), and then you can use Voice Command to switch profiles! This is WAY too cool. I have voice command assigned to button 3 on the top right of the phone -- tap it once and say, "start Home", and I watch the icon bar for PZP switch as it changes my profile. "start Car" doesn't start my car...but it DOES set the volume, ringtone, backlight, and many other settings, and also turns on bluetooth, because I always use a BT headset in the car. "Start Discreet", as I have it defined, turns off the ringer and turns on "vibrate" (and about half a dozen other settings). PZP and Voice Command are a killer combo.

Congratulations once again -- I know you'll have fun with this!
