Ottawa TUTORIAL: How to remove default pix\sounds from E815

Ok well i tried the method with bitpim that was written for v710 and it didnt work. After fooling around more i found out how, i didnt find it anywhere else so here it is.

Programs needed:
PST 7.11
P2KCommander 3.2.2

Open PST phone programmer.
Then open P2kCommander.
Then on the right side open "P2K mobile phone"
From there goto 'a' and 'shared' and you will find anything you please.
Also there is ALL the files on the E-815 so if anyone needs them to exploire on haking the phone or anything.

I bet that the peopoel who already making hacks for the phone know this, but i didnt find any posts on this so its to inform the less knowledgable people, like me .

I just wrote this so tell me if there is anything wrong...

PS: to download either of those programs you will need to sign up for free to the website forums, its worth it,they have many good programs. Im using P2k Commander 3.2.9 but i have a link for 3.2.2 but teh p2kcommander is able to check for new realeases on its own and it will update itself.

Actually, many people have been asking how to do it... My response is usally "dont bother" but hey if these instructions work, GREAT!!

Btw, a couple questions... any particular version of P2KCommander? (can you provide URL to download?)

Lastly.. if people try this, verify it works, do you mind if I add it to my pages (Giving you credit of course)??

Just tried this with PST 7.2.3 and P2K Commander 3.2.9 and everything worked fine. The only thing you need to do that you didn't mention is to delete the MyToneDB.db file after you delete the stock ringtones and then to power cycle the phone. If you don't do this you'll still see your deleted ringers in the menus used to select ringtones for contacts and whatnot. Everything worked fine for me. P2K Commander didn't always behave flawlessly, so I had to restart it a couple of times before getting it to read all the files on my phone (E815). But as far as deleting stuff, I got no errors. BitPim and Brew Apploader both gave me errors trying to delete certain things (like ringtones). P2K Cmdr certainly seems like the easy way to go.

What about deleting the default wallpapers on the phone? Do the names still show up if you don't delete the MyToneDB.db file?

No, that's just for ringtones. I always just leave the ringtones alone - though I delete the mp3 files in the motorola/shared/audio directory (those aren't ringtones).
Pics just need to be deleted from the motorola/shared/picture directory and they'll no longer show up.

After deleting the "stock" pictures, you will get "broken links" showing in your phone...

One way to fix this is to do a Master Reset and Master Clear.

BUT doing this will delete your contacts and reset all of the phones menu options/settings back to their "defaults."

hmmm ... you sure there isn't another way?

I don't recall having to do a Master Clear or Reset after deleting the stock images on any of my V710's or E815's. Where are the broken links? Maybe I just never noticed them.

What do you mean broken links? Links to what?
I deleted all the pictures I didn't want with BitPim and now they are gone.
The names are gone off the phone too. Do you mean by broken links that the names will still be on the phone or broken links to something else?

I haven't actually deleted the stock pictures yet... But what I've been told is that when you delete the pictures... they are still listed on the phone but with "broken link" type "icon" EVEN AFTER RESTARTING THE PHONE... that is what the master reset/clear is supposed to fix.

I've received several PM's about it (due to info on my BitPim page)... so I added a note about it... hmm... maybe its not needed? or just not always needed??

BUT if you didn't see the broken links for the picts u deleted, thats cool!!!

I deleted all the stock ringtones with Bitpim. And the stock wallpapers with p2k commander with no problems or broken links on my phone. And I've never had to do a master clear or reset after doing any of this.

I believe you will see the broken links until you reboot the phone.

I always power down the phone whenever I leave BitPim or any other
program that I use to edit my phone. I haven't tried to delete any ringtones so I'm not sure about that. You have me interested though.
I may try one now. LOL

I think rebooting the phone becomes such second nature that we sometimes fail to mention it.
