Several people have asked me about how i made the Silver skin for the E815.
I basically converted it from a GSM skin.
Note: Motorola GSM skins (the type you download at motomodders.net) aren't completely compatible with the E815, probably because of a font difference.
So here is a quick guide for those interested in converting/making their own skins...
PROGRAMS YOU WILL NEED: can be found at motomodders.net...
1. MotoSkin
2. SKI explorer
GETTING STARTED
1. Download the skin you want to convert (the GSM skin), and download the E815 Scarlet skin. (technically you can use any skin, but i prefer using scarlet as a template)
2. Unzip both skins to seperate folders, each skin will have a bunch of .dat files, and a .ski file
CHANGING THE IMAGES
1. Open the GSM skin's .ski file with MotoSkin, and go to Image Explorer.
2. Using the shift key, select all the image files (I just clicked on the first one, then push shift, and hold the down key until everything gets selected).
3. Then push download, and save the files to a new seperate folder.
4. Now open up the scarlet skin's ski file in MotoSkin, and go back to Image Explorer.
5. And try to replace each file with the corrosponding image from the folder you just made
6. Now comes the hard part. Some of the images may not be the same size.... so you have to resize them. I recommend Adobe Photoshop for this: its really pretty simple. After you open the GSM image, go to Image > Image size... and enter the size that it says in MotoSkin. Then go to File > Close.. doNOT exit Photoshop, it takes forever to load again and again.
7. Keep doing that for each image that doesn't match. I had to do this for about 50 files for my silver skin...
8. After you're all done, you can go back to the Desktop tab in MotoSkin and mess around with those settings if you want....
9. Now Save your skin.
COLOR MATCHING
1. Open ski explorer twice. You should have two windows of ski explorer open.
2. In one, open the .ski file of the GSM skin, and in the other, the .ski file from the Scarlet skin you just modified.
3. The strings that begin with 4 are those that control colors.
4. Some of the color strings have a unique numbers, match them up:
5. Some of the color strings don't have that... so you have to line them up, and change the colors on your skin
based on the one its aligned to...
6. Some of the strings might not have matches, like number 32 in the first pic. Its generally ok to leave those alone.
*If you are making your own skin, you can get the ski_map from motomodders.net, i noticed that the map for the Moto skin fits the E815 Scarlet skin best, not the GSM scarlet one....

^If it was easy, it wouldn't be fun.
Hey guys, I completed a conversion for the Mac OS X skin that is at motomodders.com. However I need a place to host it. It's currently in a semi-beta phase as most things are working.
Known Issues:
When choosing a wallpaper via settings>personalize>wallpaper, the scroll bar at the bottom doesn't seem to advance for the first few entries. It works fine after a bit. I have no idea what could be causing this and honestly I really don't see a problem with it so I've declared this a dead issue. Hopefully I'll clear this up sometime.
I tried setting it up so that when you loaded the wallpaper that is in the Mac OS X skin from motomodders.com, it would automatically load. I have had several issues with this and have decided to just have the skin specific wallpaper loaded the normal way.
Other than the things I stated above, this skin seems good to go!

after you have downloaded the gifs of each skin and you are going to replace the gif files, if you click on "From Folder" which is right next to "Replace" and navigate to the folder with the gifs from the GSM skin, it will replace all the files that are the same height and width without having to click replace for every file. When it is done, it will tell you which files could not be replaced because of a size difference. Then you can write those numbers down and just change those gifs.
feel free to delete this post and add that tip to the tutorial if you wish.

Thanks for the tutorial!
Here's the Windows XP Blue skin from motomodders.net. Tell me if you guys like it. I got all of the custom menu icons to show, but it still has the openwave symbol and that big ugly red arrow for GIN.
Enjoy!

Alright gang, I know a lot of you have been waiting for this one but it's finally here:
The Mac OS X skin for the E815!!!
This skin works really great and I have ironed out all the issues that I have had with it initially so it is officially version 1.1. The zip includes the .hs file that you use in conjunction with PST to put the skin on the phone. I will include the .dat/.skn files upon request but I think most people have a pc that they can use to put this on. Please read the readme inside the zip as to some of the issues that I've had with it but understand that this skin is ready to go!!
