Attention Customers of NokiaUSA.com
OK, I don't normally do this, but here's the situation, and I've noticed it happened to many, many people in the 5800 "official thread". I placed an order for 2 Nokia 5800 NAM's from NokiaUsa.com. They were preordered 2/24 and i received them on 3/24 via FedEx. After ordering, the order confirmation screen showed the final price as "$727.48"; the email order confirmation also showed "$727.48". I thought nothing of this, then when the phones shipped on 3/19 I received a shipment confirmation with a final price that was also "$727.48." I thought, cool, I'm finally going to get these things. Fast forward a week and the pending credit card transaction was gone, but moved to recent transactions. Here is what I see:
Code:
03/22/2009 | Sale | NOKIA-BRIGHTPOINT(Services and Merchandise) | $734.25
So today is 3/31, and I finally had some spare time to call Nokia's Customer Service again. I originally called about this last Wednesday (3/25), but was told their "FullFilment" center was closed and they are the ones to take care of the issue. No big deal, I'll call back during normal business hours. Called back today and was promptly transferred, I spoke to some random guy who didn't give his name, but after a few minutes of arguing told me to disregard whatever prices i was emailed, or whatever prices show up on NokiaUSA.com because the invoice price should have been "$734.25". I asked to speak to his supervisor after 5 minutes of circular arguing, in which he told me he was not available. Huh? It's a Tuesday, yes it might be Caesar Chavez Day in California, but this call center was definitely not in California and they are definitely not celebrating the day as everyone else seemed to be working.
Anyway, so the reason for posting this long winded thread is because like many others in the 5800 Official Thread, I was charged more than was quoted. I dont know their disclaimer on this, but that is definitely NOT right. How can you send someone 3 different screens for a single quoted price, yet later charge more? Yes i know the difference is a measly $7, but thats not the issue. It's the fact that it seemed to have happened to many others, and $7 * countless others = a little extra pocket change for Nokia. I will be forwarding this to the BBB, as well as Nokia corporate (if i can figure out how), and probably the consumerist.
SO, IF you have ordered anything from NokiaUSA.com, I advise you to please go and check your credit card statement and check your order confirmations, as they could be off by a few dollars. Somehow, I doubt this is legal, even with tons of possible disclaimers on their website.

i agree with you completely, they arent any better than the thieves that pilfer cents from peoples bank accounts for a large overall gain.
you realize with this method, nokia has effectively increased their profit margin by a whole percentile, if this is done across the board.
after all the trouble you have gone through, time wasted for no peace of mind, i would do the same.
if you posted a hard copy of proof i would sign a petition if you started one.

This is total BS i agree, and i literally just about sh*t my pants i was laughing so hard at the Caesar Chavez day comment.
i got charged $2 more on mine, when i emailed them they said the NOKIA site was only and ESTIMATE of tax etc.
in the end though. if you charge or give receipt of an ITEM and its charges, and something else happens.... i would think that is bad business if not illegal.

yea...see im not the only one who was charged extra.
as for the excuse about it being an estimate of tax, there is no disclaimer whatsoever about that on the order page. once you click place order, you agree to pay the amount shown to you. nothing more, nothing less. theres no point ordering if you dont know what the final price is, what if they charge you no tax, then later on tack on an extra 30 dollars saying its for processing fees? same thing. this is NOT right

submitted. honestly, as ive said before, the 7 dollars means absolutely nothing to me. dont think im doing this because of that. im doing this because i think it is ethically and possibly legally wrong. if they do this to hundreds or thousands of people, its straight profit for them. corporations are in the game to please shareholders, by making profit, i understand that, but not by "stealing" money from customers.
I know it's just the principle, but even though it's just 7 bucks, I would dispute the charge with your credit card too. Show them you have the receipts and emails that state the price that was you were suppose to be charged. You have more than enough evidence that Visa will contact Nokia Brightpoint immediately. Dealing with Nokia Brightpoint has been a complete pain in the a$$...not letting customers cancel pre-orders, doubling the hold charges on credit cards, over-charging, giving customers the runaround with phone numbers, etc.

Call them back and tell them that you're going to do a charge back on your credit card. It would be stupid of them to lose a customer for less than 1% of the price - on top of what damage they've already done to themselves with this post going out.

So what is the sales tax rate where you live? How does that relate to what your were estimated and ultimately charged? Listing your location as "United States" does not help any of us figure this out.

the tax rate means nothing. i chose not to list my location for privacy reasons. the thing that matters is that you are shown a price at the order screen and it should reflect the price you will be charged. once you press place order you and the company are agreeing on a transaction for a certain thing at a certain price. mind you the order screen first asks you at checkout for your billing and shipping address to determine your final charge for shipping and tax. once you hit next you come to another screen to confirm your order. if they originally charged me 735 i'd be fine with it. the fact that they charged me a certain price on paper then upcharged me after multiple pages straight from nokia said another price. im also mad that i normally dont check my cc statement and the would've gotten away with this.
