First, all existing customers are grandfathered from any rate changes that might increase their costs. Unlike some of the rumours that are trying to be started by the competition. There are no plans to raise rates for existing clients, even if they are not 'protected' by a contract.
Anyway, for the changes.
Expiring:
Unlimited Text Messaging for $5 (Existing customers that have this will keep it)
Caller ID, Voicemail and Unlimited Text bundle for $10 (existing customers will keep is)
Five Essentials Plan (this plan is expired however customers can still build their own plan by using the Serving Size 100 and the $10 Five essentials add-on)
Changes:
Talk and Text Plan for $25 now includes picture and video messaging - no price change
Unlimited Messaging is now $10/mth but now includes all picture and video messaging
Caller ID, Voicemail and Unlimited Messaging bundle is now $15 (but now includes all picture/video messaging)
New Rate Plan:
Introducing Nationwide Talk and Text Plan
$45 (no SAF, 911, etc)
no long distance charges for all calls made anywhere in Canada
250 anytime minutes
EW starting at 7pm
Unlimited Messaging (includes picture and video messaging)
Well we all knew rates would increase... dissapointed about Caller ID, Voicemail, and Messaging now at $15. Nobody really uses picture messaging that much but I guess it's easy to use it as a reason for a rate increase. Nationwide talk and text looks pretty cool though, and glad to finally have web browsing although with the caller ID/VM/text bundle increase I'm not so sure I want to switch when I need that and web browsing

well at least there is the new unlimited browser option, does 7.00 inlcude downloading ringtones, songs etc.. using own browser.. ? opera mini stuff like that> thethering?, going on msn, email etc.
doesn't this look EXTREMELY similar to telus's plans and rates? im beginning to think koodo is just another way to draw people into telus's business, just under a mask.
glad i'm already activated. but let's say i wanted to add the unlimited browsing to my plan. i have the caller id, voice mail, and unlimited text bundle; would i still be paying $10, or would i get the new rate?
I wrote a message about this yesterday, but I think it got lost while the forums were undergoing maintenance.
I just wanted to express my disappointment over the loss of the $10 vm/id/text package. I had built myself the perfect bundle ($20 basic + $10 package) that gave me just what I wanted and nothing that I didn't want, but now the only way to do that is to pay the extra $5 a month for picture messaging (a not-insignificant 17% increase).
As TedHead said, not many people use picture messaging. I wouldn't send one to a friend even if I had it unlimited because most people do not, and I wouldn't want to inflict someone else with a $0.50 charge for something that I could just email later. I'm guessing this is the case for most people. Text, on the other hand, is a useful communication tool, especially while traveling in the US where talking would be prohibitively expensive.
I realize that you're a new company and need to make money some how, but removing the option for text-only just seems like a cash grab. What if you offered the original $10 package for a smaller increase, like $12? The $10 was an exceptionally good deal, $12 would be more in line with what other carriers would charge, and it would still be "fat free".
approaching $50/month for a basic plan isnt exactly "fat free" IMO
Looking at the new Nation wide talk and text plan ($45), there really isn't anything out there that competes with this plan from any carrier, so "fat free" still stands IMO.
For the Nationwide Talk and Text Plan, if I make a LD call after 7pm or on weekends does that eat up anytime minutes or would that effectively be unlimited LD for E/W?
Anytime minutes or only used up in the daytime. Effectively you will have unlimited LD anytime that you have free airtime (ex. free weekends, evenings etc).

Although I get to keep my $5/month unlimited text, I am disappointed to see it get bumped up to $10 and adding picture messaging.. Isn't as great of a deal anymore for me to tell my friends about and tell them to sign up with Koodo. I hate when companies pull stuff like that, let the customer choose, if they don't want picture messaging then don't force them to have it like that... I hope Koodo doesn't continue this way.
