$0.15/msg for incoming txt's as of Aug 24th

I was checking my latest invoice, and there is a rate change that says that all incoming txts will be charged $0.15 per text as of Aug 24th.

Looks like Telus wants to make some $$ and we can get charged even for the spam messages we get.

Oh, it is August 24th. I wonder where I got the July 1st date came from?

Anyways, you're right. As of August 24th incoming texts from other mobiles will no longer be free, but will be charged just like incoming website/email texts now. Probably to align with the way things are being done in the industry.

Note that this only affects those who do not have any text coverage. If you have a feature that covers text then you will continue to receive free incoming from other mobiles. Spammers usually don't spam from their cells, so I don't think you need to worry about that.

I hope Telus does what Bell did and send a separate letter explaining that they would start to charge for incoming sms. Lots of people don't even bother to read that little news corner on the right, side of the bill.

July 1st (or somewhere close to that) the rate change effects NEW Activations. Any Activation after that point will be charged for incoming. After Aug then the change will effect all clients that do not have a Text Package.

For those complaining that you are going to get charge for SPAM messages. Most spam messages are from a web source (email or web site) and they have been charging for web based incoming messages since the dawn of text LOL.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8330/4.3.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/126 UP.Browser/5.0.3.3)

Alright here is the low down july 1st was the date for new clients to get charged for incoming text but now existing clients will also get charged for incoming text starting aug 24th so they just moved it to the same date so now all clients will be charged for incoming text at .15 cents per incoming text unless you have a tetx package starting aug. 24

So theoretically, if I wanted to make someone very angry, I could just send them tons of text messages with my unlimited text package, right?

I'm sure somewhere down the line Telus will call and ask why I'm sending 500 texts a day to someone, but what would they be able to do?

I'm not sure how the industry does it normally, but I can only see this as a ploy to get more money.

If you have ANY text package you are covered for unlimited text. Even the $3 package for 30 text or something (outgoing)

TELUS would not call you for sending some on 500 Texts a day. but if you were doing it to me, I'd sure as hell have the RCMP/City Cops knocking on your door with Harrasment/Stalking charges.

Would be in the US. When I was working for a US carrier they allowed anyone to cancel without ETF when they raised the pricing of SMS to $0.15.

The best way to get out of a contract in Canada would be to not sign the contract at all. I'd rather pay full price for a phone and have the freedom to tell the carrier to go fly a kite whenever I feel like it.
