Blackberry Connect Options to be removed from Market

Effective June 3rd.

More disappointing news on the data front. All blackberry connect BIS services are being discontinued. Existing customers will be grandfathered and service will not be disrupted. If you're thinking about getting this service for your unlocked Blackberry or BB Connect device, you have only a few days left.

Who didn't see this one coming after the nightmare that was the Nokia E62. I am a little disappointed because I was going to add BB Connect to my plan again when I got an E71

Well exactly... Why not try a new device, like a blackberry or the E71 before discontinuing the service? Disappointing but not surprising...

I'm surprised they would remove this. I've added this option to quite a few accounts that have Blackberry users.

So much for the rumours of Fido getting the Pearl. LOL.

Still, why get rid of it now when they'll be launching the E71 in the near future?

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8830/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/109)

I am surprised. Seems like Fido didn't gave Blackberry a fair chance.

I've been using BB connect for a good while now, and am very happy with it. It is far more flexible on both what devices you use it on (in my case I started on the BB 8100 Pearl, moved on to the BB 8320 and finally on the Nokia e51), and no domain-restrictions on what email domain you wish to monitor. Unlike that nonsense that Fido is now offering with their so-called unlimited email with a small handfull of domains.

I guess some of Fido's/Rogers motivation to lean away from BB is the royalties they have to pay RIM per subscriber.

I intend to hang on to this excellent service for as long as they will let me.

Sure. I think you just have to tell CS that you have an E62 and they'll add the option.

As stange as this sounds, I've heard people talking about the e71 running as a WM phone. I think highly doubt it as I have never seen a Nokia run on WM but it would make sense why they're removing the BB Connect option. These are just rumours going around the office though but you never know. I guess we'll see in September...

Those who want these options or plan on using a Blackberry on Fido in the future better call in and get them added now!

$25/3MB by request
$40/7MB
$60/25MB
$100/200MB

And those trying to decide between Blackberry and Windows Immobile should remember:

The Blackberry service is true push. It's also fully compressed. Example: 25MB of Blackberry data is equal to over 150MB of Windows Mobile data. You don't need the "unlimited email" marketing ploy plans on Windows Mobile. 25MB of BB will get you hundreds of emails every day without ever going over limits, and you can use ANY domain you like. You can also use any Blackberry or Blackberry Connect device you like as well. But times running out so think fast!

Cheers.

Ugh. Fido is becoming less attractive every day. I just got my "second" line with Bell - a free Pearl with 450 d/t minutes, u/l e/w, vm + cid and unlimited data for a total of $62.70 + tax (including SAF and 911). Voice AND unlimited data for the same price as the "decent" plan from Fido.

The only benefit to Fido (and admittedly, to many, this is a huge benefit) is phone choice flexibility via GSM. And that flexibility is being reduced daily.

as a reminder to those who don't already know, Telus blackberries are limited to 200mW in output power but Rogers blackberries are limited to 2000mW in output power.
