samsung SCH-U740 or Samsung A990?

Which would you prefer for? the Samsung sch-u740 or Samsung A990? I am gonna get a new phone the month after this so i dont know which to pick. a990 has the best megapixel camera with a 3.2, while the samsung sch-u740 has a mere 1.3 megapixel. I like the slim form factor of the samsung sch-u740, but i dont know if it is well sturdy enough to flip it on both ways. (I dont want to get a phone for 2 years that breaks easily thats why). Although the Samsung A990 is really thick, in terms of technology, it seemed pretty good. so does the samsung sch-u740, its just that it lacks something than the other. I dont know how to make a suggestion so i am asking for you guys to help me on making a decision. I'm definately getting a 2 year contract on the verizon phone but just the phones (picking) problem. Also since I don't know much about the samsung sch-u740 because it just came out, whoever has it, can someone tell me in there opinion on whats good about it and is there any problems with that phone so far? thank you very much for understanding.

I haven't tried the U740 (yet) so I can't comment on if it's any good or not, but most
people in the U740 thread say it's a good phone.
I liked the A990 when I had it. The camera took good pics, the QVGA display was nice, and it had stereo speakers.
I've also been using the enV since November, and it's a good phone.
It has a 2MP cam and QVGA display, which the U740 does not.
If you want a good "normal" flip phone, then go with the A990, but if you want a QWERTY keyboard phone, then go with the enV.
Both have good cameras and displays.

Once I get to try the U740 I'll see if my opinion changes.

Thanks For helping my out. I just cant wait to see the results of this baby LOL. I saw that the camera is quite well on taking pictures except on low light conditions. between how much is it to buy the Samsung SCH-U740 on the retail store by any chance with a two year agreement because my mother told me that the online stores dont tell you the exact prices without it taxes being added. Same thing goes for the Samsung A990. I want to know how much is the phone with the 2 year agreement and plus taxes by any chance. Also heard from this thread that the bluetooth stereo on the Samsung SCH-U740 want that good. is that true? Well let me if the two phones are good or not. please vote people. and thank you for helping me.

P.S. i know i should read the Samsung SCH-U740 thread but i do. Every minute of it, i refresh the page to see the updates but i need more info it it thats why. thank you for understanding. Between thanks for helping me on this also.....

Do more research first. The 990 is already 7 months outdated, and the u740 has a lot of features that the 990 does not. I made the mistake of buying a phone for its multifunctionality and I wish i didnt. I bought the a970 a year and a half ago becasue it had a 2megapixel camera (first one of its class) and it had the earliy version of a music player. Well as it turns out there are were alot of problems with it and I wish I would have made a different decsion. Just do more research, but do not buy a phone soley based on its camera capabilities. Sorry if i made a typo..its friday night.

It's very simple... I wanted a flip phone with a qwerty keyboard and noone had one, so I resigned myself to the VX9900, but fortunately this(u740) came out 2 days before my upgrade date, so I got it instead and I am very stoked about it.

This is a decent phone with decent sound, an ok camera, a decent screen, fairly standard features for this generation of (semi-smart)phone and a pretty nice UI. For a flip phone this thing rocks, but it doesn't have the best of anything, except that it's about the smallest phone you can get with a qwerty.

Everything this phone does, I'd bet the eNV does better, but it's not a small flip phone.

I don't see the comparison between the A990 and U740, I think these phones are for 2 different people with different needs and that a decision between these 2 should be easy, a lot easier than the decision between the U740 and the VX9900.

Well First of all, I am not only looking for camera funtionalities and yes i know there is not comparison between the Samsung A990 to the Samsung SCH-U740. It is the problems of the bugs and fixes. so far the Samsung SCH-U740, have not reported any bugs and fixes do to my research of the phone from this forum to the Cnet.com , inforsyncworld.com, phonearena.com, phonescoop.com, and Amazon.com (which it did not come out yet according to Amazons website). I highly know that first phone that come out, (Just come out) tend to have massive problems like that of the Samsung SCH-U740 which the UI tends to Lag allittle. that is a very little minor problems that can be handled, but as and overall, I don't know yet. The Samsung A990 has a lot of bugs and fixes though. but the UI is plain, style looks decent.
Yes i know that the LG VX9900 can beat the Smasung SCH-U740, but according to the built quality in comparrison, the Samsung tends to have the best luxurious like quality based on my experience with my previous phone. I heard that Lg has the biggiest software problems and that their plastics feel quite awkward. In terms of built quality, I think the Samsung wins. thats why i am wondering which of the TWO Samsung phone would be great in terms of build quality, i know the looks of the pictures and it takes pretty decent pictures, but the software update can be the problem of the firmwared device. can have lack of programs, limited things than the other phone and etc. So I think you made a mistake as in terms of what i had said. sorry i hadnt written well on the thread because of course i am still at school. I hope you understand this reply much better than the previous ones that i had wrote.

well, the a990 is not technically outdated.. it has a huge amount of features, nothing has replaced it or trumped it.. and its still a great phone. the u740 just has a fujll keyboard and a crappy screen. so if thats waht you want, get it.

Oh LoL. It looked so real that i tried to search for that color online, (Literally). Anyway........I just hope that someone could help me out besides this. thanks for the info guys but its just not enough to fill up my knowledge lol. love to learn but need more than that. I've never touched a Samsung SCH-U740 yet but I am planning to, but in the meantime, i did touch the Samsung A990. The formfactor is, is that the Samsung A990 is quite thick. I know there are so much crap inside, but if they had just fixed that one problem which is the UI and the Mp3 thing on the software update, it would be much better.......

the UI on the a990 will never be changed.. and doubt it will ever be able to play mp3s either. just go to the store and actually play with both of them.. it beats out anyone telling you biased comments about them.

Well actually you are right, but dont you think a teenager like me would be roaming around the same verizon store almost every time would be considered suspicious? I've been throught the Verizon store for so many times and seriously I think these employers would know me. If you say that they dont reconize me, well your wrong lol. I'm like the only asian in the neighborhood that have a mohawk LOL. so i highly doubt there is any chance for me to play around with the phones. they only phone that i got to play with is the LG VX9900 the most and a little bit of the Samsung A990, never got a chance to touch the Samsung SCH-U740 because it did not come out at that time. So umm.. yeah, its gonna be hard for me to be able to play with these babys anymore.

Larry:

I would seriously try to go play with one of these.(u740)

I understand that you're probably informed on all of the features that both of these phones have, so I won't talk about those anymore.

I wasn't trying to jump on ya about your post semantics before, just trying to point out that these phones have largely different features, in hopes that it might help you to decide.

I have only played with the a990 at the store, but I'm not real big on the twisting screen, it doesn't feel good to me and I don't see the point. The only area in which I'd rate it over the u740 is photos.

The u740 on the other hand feels great to me, I've flipped it open both ways about 2000 times since I got it thursday. The standard flip action is about the nicest I've felt in a phone, there's just enough spring to hold it open or closed and not so much that it feels like it wants to pop out of your hand and the side flip is even nicer. The spring to hold the side flip closed is about twice as strong as the regular flip, so there's no chance of stressing the mechanism by it trying to open both ways at the same time, but it doesn't kick in until it's almost closed. This really is about the best feeling, and built, phone I've ever used.

I have to compare the action of this phone to an old high quality tape deck(if you were around for those), cheap decks just kinda popped open when you hit eject, but a good deck came out nice and smooth, stopping gently at the end. That's what the action of this phone reminds me of.
