I was looking for these earlier today so I know.
It turns out that, at least for me and for right now, the question has become moot. I was asking because in their ad this past Sunday, my local Fry's listed a 16gb micro-SD card for $29 and change. Since I'ver never seen them below $95 online, that was obviously a pretty good deal. So I was going to go on and take a chance and try one, because Verizon probably lists the 8GB limit simply because that's the biggest card they could get when they made the thing. When I got up to Fry's today, however, I discovered it was a misprint...the sale price was for a full size 16gb SD card and not a micro card, and they don't even stock 16gb micro-SD cards at the local store.

Firmware upgraded from v04 to v06. It took the Verizon store about 30 minutes to complete the download/installation. Be prepared to leave the phone with them and come back later to pick it up if you don't want to wait around.
This is not an error. What is happening is that the voice is still coming out of the earpiece and not the speakerphone, even though the phone is open. It usually automatically turns the speakerphone on, but if it has been turned off, it may not turn it back on again.
Speaking of speakerphone, is there anyway to increase the volume of this thing? I have it all the way up and when I get a phone call the voice caller ID is so incredibly low it's almost pointless to even have it. Also, when I talk to people on speakerphone, it's ridiculously low to the point where that feature is pointless as well. It sucks because I had a 10 dollar Nokia and the speakerphone was 100x better on it, and this thing is stereo sound!
I'll do anything, even if it requires a hack with bitpim. I really need this speaker louder. And I'm not even listening to music on it.

I use my micro sd card to add/remove ring tones and photos. You don't need any program for that.

The only other thing I could think of that you CAN'T do via the MicroSD card is adding/removing ringtones. For that, I recommend you download bitpim from http://bitpim.org and it will auto-detect your phone after you install the LG drivers from http://vzamredesign.smithmicro.net/...g_Ver_4.8.1.exe
Further instructions, if needed, are posted widely in this forum.

Maybe you don't because you don't mind paying for messaging.. but other people don't want to pay. As far as I can see the only way to get ringtones on the env2 without using a program is to send yourself a picture message with the sound file from the MicroSD attached. Of course, that incurs in MMS charge. So it's not truly free. I never said anything about pictures because that's part of the reason of having a MicroSD slot.
Not only that though. Sending sound files through MMS is bad if you prefer higher quality sound. Verizon tends to compress files even more than before and it might even sound unusable when using certain audio file bit rates and compression ratios originally.
Is there a good bitpim guide out there for this phone? Not with how to use it but with what could be done? I have to imagine there's some hidden files where I can edit their values. I really need to do something to make the speakerphone louder (especially when that speech thing is going on).

Actually - you can create ringtones for free using BitPim, without sending yourself a MMS file (ie: no text msg fee!) and keeping your compression ratios... read on my friends!
~Florestan
Access Ringtones from a microSD card:
Transferring files to the microSD card through the phone using BitPim is very slow, users should transfer files to the card directly from a PC.
1. On the microSD card, create a subdir called ringers
2. Copy your ringtone files to the ringers subdir.
3. Insert the card back into the phone and start BitPim.
4. Retrieve Ringtone data from the phone:
a. Menu Data -> Get Phone Data.]
b. Check on Ringtone, and click on OK.
5. Write Ringtone data back to the phone:
a. Menu Data -> Send Phone Data.
b. Check on Ringtone and click on OK.
6. All of the ringtones stored on both the phone and the card are now available for assignment.
Step 3 through 5 should be repeated for all changes made to the ringers subdir.
Ringtones stored on the microSD card will not show up in the Ringers tab, since BitPim does not add or delete those files.
To delete ringtones stored on the microSD card, first delete them manually from the phone, then remove the associated ringtone files from the card.

Florestan2.. please read my post again. We all know how to use Bitpim but thanks for outlining it for those that stumble across this thread.

I've not seen this issue addressed anywhere before, so I'm hoping that it's simply a matter of menu option ignorance on my part.
I'm considering getting the env2, but in testing several display models, I've come across a common problem issue. As far as I've been able to tell, I'm rather pleased with the volume that this phone produces. Both the earpiece and the speakerphone seem loud and clear. With the phone flipped open and the speakers on, I can hear the tones of buttons being pressed from several feet away, and can hear alerts and music clearly from across a room.
BUT ...
When I press the button for the voice command prompt, I cannot hear that. The prompt comes up a-ok, but it's so terribly quiet and hard to hear that even if I hold the open phone next to my head I can barely make it out.
Since I'd most often be using the voice command feature when I can't stop and look down at the phone, I think that it's rather important to know that you've hit the right button and can then give your command.
On each test model, I've gone through the menu system to make sure that the voice command function is set to offer a voice prompt, that it's set to route to the speakerphone (rather than the earpiece) and that the volume is turned all the way up. ... Still though, that wonderfully loud sound disappears for the voice command prompt. Truthfully, it seems as though it's not even coming out of the stereo speakers. If I didn't check and re-check that I'd set it to do just that, I'd think that it was coming out of the regular earphone speaker.
Anybody have any thoughts as to what I'm missing? Or can anyone at least tell me that when they have their phone flipped open, that the voice command prompt comes through LOUD like music and alerts?
Thanks to you all.
I just got my EnV2 and love it. But.... I'm having the same problem with the voice commands that you are. The volume is very, very low. I'm hoping that someone else will respond to this question. If it's a defective phone, I have time to get a new replacement.

You're absolutely positive the voice commands are being routed through the speakers? With the flip open and you're listening to a voice command does it make any difference if you press the speaker key? While listening to voice commands and turning the volume rocker up does the volume actually go up?
It seems strange to me that calls and music would be OK but just the voice commands would be such low volume.
FWIW, voice commands work just great on my enV2.

You can set your voice commands to come out of either the earpiece or the speaker. I've always thought this was supremely retarded because it seems it should automatically come from whatever you're using at the moment: Speaker if the speakerphone is on, earpiece if it's not. I don't need my phone announcing to the entire room who I'm calling if I'm not using speakerphone.

Thanks.
I don't use voice commands, and in fact I had to fiddle around to remember how to start voice commands to test this, so this isn't an issue for me personally.
But it must be a design issue. My Env2 plays music and so on at a reasonable level. But the voice command prompts are not nearly as loud. And I've had this phone long enough that I know all volume settings are turned up.
Thanks for the info on the command volume. I'm still debating whether to keep the phone or not. My old Samsung 930 had much louder speaker phone and commands; but it's begun to have problems. So I definitely need a new phone.
Another question. Today I had the phone on sitting in front of me while I was working. At some point, I noticed that the external screen was lit up. Then it went dark. I kept watching out of the corner of my eye for the same thing to happen and it did. What's going on??

It depends whether you text or not. The reason why your Samsung A930 has a better speaker phone is because the speaker is on the outside where else the enV2's speaker phone is on the inside. Only way to make it loud is having the enV2's phone in an open position. If texting isn't really a matter to you, I suggest switching to another phone, but yet again, it is my opinion.
Answer to your question, try turning your phone off and turning it back on. if it still does it, then it must of been a software malfunction.
