Hey guys, I'm working in the Electronics department at a Loblaws store in the Montreal area.
We just recieved demo and retails units and details about a new promotion going on starting August 7th and finishing mid-september (the 17th if I remember right).
First of all, the Nokia 6275i is discontinued. There is a recall for all remaining units in all Loblaws stores selling PC Mobiles phones.
Second, the new phones. We will start selling on August 7th :
- LG 160 (59$)
- LG 160 bundle (including Bluetooth headset and car charger, running for 89$)
- Motorola KRZR K1m (only as a bundle, including Bluetooth headset and car charger for 149$)
Last, the new promotion. Anyone who will buy an LG 160 (phone or bundle) will recieve 2 months of unlimited text messaging, a 25$ start-up credit (instead of 10$) and another bonus (which I don't remember what it is, I'll update the post tomorrow). New Motorola KRZR K1m owners will get the same thing, only difference is the start-up credit, which will be 50$ (instead of the 10$ standart, 25$ for the LG 160).
I don't know which Bluetooth headset they threw in those bundle, since I didn't open retail unit boxes yet, but my guess is that they give the same Plantronics they gave with the Samsung M300 Bundle.
So that's it, you know it all. I'll update the post tomorrow at work when I'll see the rest of details.
on that note, its great to see "new" phones making their way to PC. I was expecting the Rumor to launch as well but I guess it is still new at Bell/Solo/Virgin so must be coming in a few months.
I don't expect any other new phones anytime soon, since this promo and new phones are for the "Back to school". Would be nice though if they get the LG Rumor, but if they do, it will be overpriced, Just like to Nokia 6275i, I paid it 50$ PREPAID on Solo Mobile a couple months ago.
UPDATE : after all, its one month of unlimited text message, 25$ (LG)/50$ (KRZR) start up credit and the bonus is a 10$ gift card (with coupon) redeemable at any Loblaw store around Canada.
Hilarious that PC Mobile itself doesn't post any of this
I've been running around trying to get the Nokia phone for a week now (since I found out about the great start-up deal). The clerks in Loblaws have tried to be helpful, but are completely surprised that they don't actually have it in stock. So I went to the next store... not in stock.
Checked in Kingston, and the lady at the second store I phoned there said "Yeah, actually now that you mention it, they've probably been recalled."
Not that the guy in India at the Customer Support line knew that (he kept trying to tell me stores I could go buy it at... except he was just reading them off the website and I'd actually been to the stores - they're not there.)
So, great deal if you can get a worthwhile phone. But you're SOL if you want to speak with someone who knows what's going on... ever. Except for maybe on these forums. That's pretty pathetic, really
Shame, I really love PC financial and was hoping they would do the same thing with their cell phones. (I should point out that PC financial uses real people, who actually know their product, along with a discount price of free : )
