I believe you can add the unlimited txt feature on each line you want. However, your bill would go up higher with those add on. Go the VZW website and do the math, choose the features you want then you'd see how much increase you're expecting.
Officially, that is true, the lowest advertised family share plan is with 700 minutes. That being said, for existing customers, there is another option that might be available if they call in or stop by a store and talk to a knowledgeable/helpful representative: the somewhat cheaper 550 minute family share saver/loyalty/retention plan.
True, but the loyalty/save tool plans are usually saved as a last option in an attempt to 'save' a customer from leaving VZW...also depends on several other factors--length of time as customer, payment history, etc... I would be careful of advising posters about things like that without knowing more indepth about their account history, their personal situation, etc., you know what I mean? Not to say that anyone would take information such as this and 'run with it', so to speak, but sometimes things happen and a situation could possibly come up where someone is reading this thread, and call customer service wanting to change a loyalty plan "because they read a thread/post about it on HoFO, and they want it,too because they've been 'loyal'"...Idunno, just how I look at it...

In most cases this worked just fine for pretty much most of the people who tried and posted about it. I do understand the general place you are coming from, however, nevertheless, nothing is really being advertised nor anyone is really being urged in any of that--the post simply informs of an option that might (and I did use the word "might") be available and worth exploration (meaning worth looking into in case it might apply, although it's certainly implied that it might not).

I certainly see where you're coming from, as well...as being in customer service-no matter what venue or industry-sometimes you have those 'so-and-so has/got/didn't have to (fill in the blank w/case), and I want it/don't want to have to, as well!' situations that come along ...you know it can go...

So, On friday, I stopped into a VZW store and upgraded my parents phones. Got Mom and Dad both W755's. The sales rep FORCED me to move to NW, so I asked for FULL data blocks for those lines.
per the Receipt, that was done, and dad was on NW 900, mom on NW 450 both with data blocks.
Sunday evening I moved my Dad's, Mom's and my lines to a NW FS plan via the 800 CS line.... I asked for Full data blocks on my parents lines.. and the Vcast Vpack for me.
Tonight I just looked on the My account page... and I see .66MB of Pay as you go data on my MOM's line!?!?!?!
Looking at her line further shows...

Aside from data getting through data blocks, you really shouldn't have been moved to NW plans when it came to just upgrading the phones (unless you were also changing the plans in some way as well).

I know. the in store rep FORCED IT... Even after I said... Really? I thought that was only required for Voyager and Glyde or when changing minutes. He said NO.
Since I knew my parents wanted me to see about adding a line for my great aunt to use in "emergencies"... I didn't put up too much fuss, because I knew to get a Family Share, it would be nationwide anyway...
Plus I did call VZW customer service 800 after I left the store and they were able to move my dad back to AC II, but for my mom's line the rep ran into problems and would have had to "submit a request" to have it done.
I can't wait to hear what they say at CS tomorrow when I call and ask what the charges were. 2 data, at .33mb each. One was at 11:50am on Friday (when i was in the store purchasing the phone) and the other was at 1:31pm friday.
Oh, btw, I did add the line for my great aunt today... In a different store. I asked for full data block. they did NOT block mobile web I had to do it via My Account web page.

Since the time coincides with the time you were at the store, could the representative been doing something as the phone was being activated, possibly trying GIN or even installing/using an application (like Backup Assistant) or something similar (unless activation/update itself uses some data in some way).

I told him BA wasn't on Mom's phone (its her line that shows the data charges). They took it in back to transfer the numbers.
at 1:30pm.. I had the phone, in its box. Mom didn't get it until dad took it home to her after 3:30pm. I know I didn't launch anything when I had it as it was sitting in the box. I was working with Dad's phone to put his custom ring tones back on (via P2KCommander and usb cable).
Even if it IS because OTA/initial programming uses data. I should NOT be charged for that.
I can't wait to see what they say when I call tomorrow.

One other possibility, depending on the exact situation with the plans and everything else, is that it might be some sort of delayed usage--I know sometimes data from previous day or two only shows up later on, and sometimes associated with a later time (although generally it should be associated with the time when the usage actually happened). Anyway, certainly would be interesting to find out what VZW will have to say about it (assuming you even get someone competent).

Per my call to Verizon's 800 number...
The useage was for Backup Assistant which I should not be charged for. She credited the account $1.99.
Neat, considering Mom's old phone didn't have BA, nor does her NEW phone.
Also, even though I have all data blocks on my account, she told me something I found VERY INTERESTING...
She suggested I re-program my short cut keys to prevent accidental attempts to access Get-it-Now and Mobile Web (pre-programmed on two of the short cuts)...
This is because even with full data blocks in place... ATTEMPTS to access these services, even if blocked, will cost data!!
I suggested that instead Verizon should re-do the firmware to prompt the user warning them and asking "do you want to continue" so that unsuspecting people do NOT get charged for things they dont know could cost them extra $$$.

But if data is blocked how could any data be used to even attempt to access data? That's just illogical and ridiculous. I can't really believe they would have it set up that way, it'd make this whole thing pretty useless. Can we get some more confirmations of this (or hopefully confirmations to the opposite effect)?

It doesn't make scense to me either. BUT she said it happened to HER on her line and her daughter's.
She has also submitted a written complaint to Verizon, and told me she's not only a VZW employee, she's also a customer and is not happy about it either.
I'm going to keep an eye on it, as I have 3 additional lines on my NW FS plan with "full data blocks" in place.
I have the one still in my possession, the other two, well, I'll see Mom and Dad tomorrow night, so I'll play with them trying to access Mobile Web and GIN, then check data usage my account.

If this turns out to be true, it will just add to my continuing amazement that VZW still hasn't plugged, or even publicly published a list of, all the NW plan "data leaks" - of course, it's possible that this could be intentional. An extra $2/month for a few KB from all NW customers that have no data plan is likely to be mighty profitable.
I think $15/month isn't unreasonable if you're actually going to use 5GB of data each month. Problem is that this behavior may push many of those same (KB usage) customers into paying an additional $15/month (or moving up to Premier) just to obtain "insurance" against all these NW plan "data leaks". If so, shareholders can rejoice ...

FYI - I just called my local Wal-Mart here in Western New York and she told me we do NOT have to upgrade to the new Nationwide plans, we can keep our AC plan
