Great find. Don't feel bad. And the person you linked to is an excellent Maemo UI and UX person. He was part of the team that built the popular Carman and Canola apps for Maemo 4. Very nice find.

1) doesnt have carl zeiss, at least doesnt seem to. Nokia always print the camera info around the shutter.
2) has a single LED, which is contrary to nokias trend to include at least 2 LEDs in newer models. If it has 12MPX I would at least expect better flash
3) on the upper part there is something like a speaker. But only ONE, no stereo speakers which would be awfull for any high end device with 12MPX
so in conclusion I think it is fake which I think the author found funny.
I think it's possibly real. I don't think it's an N series device though. The only reason I can think of for them to put such a high res sensor in a phone and then not draw attention to it is that the focus of the phone is on design and style. May be it's something out of the rumored C series line?
maybe thats it but people would hate to have a mono speaker just because its a "cameraphone" and that looks like a single LED which wouldnt fit to a camera phone, unless its really a xenon flash
I am also really skeptical, especially when I saw the single flash,
But, just look at the back of the E72 and tell me what feeling you get when you look at the pic again.
I personally don't have much interest in it, not much of a camera guy, so it doesn't really matter real or fake to me, but this is very compelling nonetheless.
You can see through the Nokia sticker on the back. It was put on afterwards, and the parts that are raised are darker on the sticker. Also, look at your camera module on ANY phone you have and compare it to that phone. see how small it is? definitely not a 12.1 or any .1 megapixel. MAYBE it has 1.3, but that is gonna be a crappy 1.3 megapixel. Better luck next decade. Nokia doesn't care about consumers. That is why they release beta phones that need 8 months of firmware updates to fix the issues that happens ON EVERY PHONE THEY MAKE.....
It could just be a prototype guys. At this point, we don't know what it is but one would have to be stupid to think that Nokia isn't developing more camera phones with higher megapixel counts.
