Unhappy John Helmsley - Passed Away

This is a post I wish I never had to make.

It is with great sadness to hear that John Helmsley (aka. Barry) passed away on Sunday at a hockey game. Here is a link to his bio: http://www.howardforums.com/member.php?u=754

To those who knew him, knew that he was very helpful to the HF community and offered a lot of technical info that we all benefitted from.

Barry: Thanks for all your help you have given me and to us here at HOFO and you will be missed.

I will post information about funeral visitation times when it becomes available. To those who receive this information before me, please add to this thread so that it may benefit all of us who would like to pay our respects.

    Thanks.

And, thanks for all the intel gathering and drive testing all these years. It's my honour to know you - on and off the net.

    Folks,

When Steve Punter told me that his wife has been trying to reach me for something important, I thought that she may want me to buy her something nice in Hong Kong. However, I am still having a hard time to believe this sudden tragedy even at this moment. We have just left each other voice mail over the weekend before I left Vancouver for Asia.

Barry may be a little strange to some but to many who have been around since the days of USENET, he was a fixture in the cellphone geek community.

From now on, I have got one fewer friend to go for movies, to trade/test/play the handsets with, to poke around flaws and problems at the carriers, to argue about cars and other gadeget stuff... And, one fewer guy to be hunted by the white van. However, all these great times and memories will remain with us forever.

I am NOT "the" HC, we are TWO different individuals!

    I can't believe this.

Never knew him in person, but always appreciated his posts. He was one of the good guys around here that made being a cellphone geek ... kind of cool.

My condolences to all his family and friends.

And let us always remember: Helmsley did not fear the white van!

Cheers to you, Barry. and Thank You.
