T-Mobile just sent us the following heads-up via email:

T-Mobile expands HSPA+ network footprint; plans to offer faster speeds in 2011

Today, T-Mobile USA, Inc. announced the continued expansion of its super-fast mobile broadband network to 100 million Americans in more than 55 major metropolitan areas.

T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network – which offers theoretical peak throughput speeds of 21Mbps – is now available in Boston, Mass.; Erie, Penn.; Fresno, Palm Springs and San Diego, Calif.; Miami, Fla.; Richmond, Va.; Spokane, Wash.; and Topeka, Kan.

“Our new network offers today’s available 4G speeds to more people than any other wireless network in the country and we’re not done yet. We are now on pace to more than double our HSPA+ footprint – reaching more than 200 million people by this year – with plans to offer 42Mbps theoretical speeds in 2011,” said Neville Ray, chief network officer for T-Mobile USA.

The Pearl 9100 will be sold for $320 by Wind. Not a bad price point. It should arrive in time for people to take advantage of the $20 credit. Should be out in a couple of days from my assumptions. Still no confirmed launch date.

Also, the Motorola XT720 should follow right after so we might see a mid-September launch for the device.

Last week was an exciting week for us as we took a trip from Boston to Tampa. Instead of taking a plane down, we decided to do it the old fashion way with four wheels and eventually moved to the Amtrak auto-train. The two in party, including me, wondered what we would do to occupy ourselves over the three day trip. We figured what better way would there be to review a mobile hotspot than a long trip down the east coast. So we decided to get a Clear Spot 4G+ Mobile Hotspot and test it extensively over the period of a trip, with the majority of use during the three day trip.

Now you may be wondering, what is a Clear Spot 4G+ Mobile Hotspot? ...

"The developers at XDA have been porting Android to the HTC Touch Pro 2/Tilt 2 since February. Yesterday they reached a new milestone of usability -- SOUND FINALLY WORKS!

The newest build sports Android 2.2 FroYo and works on both CDMA and GSM phones. The build is not a full ROM, but rather uses the haret SD boot method, leaving Windows Mobile intact. There are still some features to be developed (Bluetooth, camera, OpenGL ES rendering, and the battery meter is a little quirky) but overall this build is very usable!
